Day 1: ARRIVE COPENHAGEN (D)
Transfer from Copenhagen Kastrup Airport to hotel in connection with your flight arrival.

Dinner and accommodation at the unique Admiral Hotel, located close to the Amalienborg Palace, the old Nyhavn harbour and the pedestrian streets. Your tour escort will meet you at 19.45 hrs (before dinner) in the hotel lobby.

Day 2: COPENHAGEN (B)

Buffet breakfast at the hotel and start of 3 hours guided panoramic tour of the city. You will see the Amalienborg Palace, residence of the Danish royal family, Gefion Fountain, Christiansborg Palace (Danish Parliament buildings), the old harbour of Nyhavn, and of course the famous Little Mermaid. Afternoon free for exploring this fairytale city. Your tour escort will provide entrance tickets for the famous Tivoli Gardens.

Day 3: COPENHAGEN – OSLO (B, D)

Morning free in Copenhagen. Afternoon transfer by coach from hotel to your overnight cruise by ferry to Oslo. Enjoy your first Scandinavian smörgåsbord dinner as you cruise gently up the Kattegat. Accommodation in 2-berth outside cabins with shower/WC.

Day 4: OSLO (B, D)

A delicious buffet breakfast is being served as you cruise along the enchanting Oslo Fjord. Arrival in Oslo at 09.30 hrs, followed by 3 hours guided tour of the Norwegian capital, incl. the impressive Vigeland Sculpture Park. Afternoon free in Oslo. We can recommend a visit to the Munch Museum or a stroll along the Karl Johan shopping boulevard.

Day 5: OSLO – ULVIK (B, L, D)

After breakfast you will visit the world-famous Viking Ships. Departure from Oslo, driving via Hønefoss along the charming Halling Valley to the tourist resort town of Geilo. Lunch at local restaurant. After lunch cross the wild Hardanger Mountain Plateau to Fossli, stopping to view the thundering Vøringsfoss Waterfall with a vertical drop of 180 m. Descend the amazing Måbødal Canyon to the idyllic Hardanger Fjord. Cross the Hardanger Bridge and route to Ulvik.

Dinner and accommodation in fjord view rooms at Brakanes Hotel, ideally located on the banks of the fjord.

Day 6: ULVIK – BERGEN (B, L)
After buffet breakfast, start of scenic tour along the beautiful Hardanger Fjord, famous for its many fruit orchards. Route via the towns of Øystese and Norheimsund, arriving in Bergen around midday. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon 2 hours tour of Bergen, including a visit to the popular Fish and Flower Market, the famous Bryggen Harbour with its gabled pack houses, and the old Hanseatic Quarter. You will also ride on the funicular to Mt. Fløien, for the best views of the city and fjords way below.

Accommodation at First Hotel Marin, centrally located next to the old Bryggen harbour and close to the pedestrian shopping streets.

Day 7: BERGEN – FLÅM – BALESTRAND (B, D)

After breakfast departure from Bergen and drive via Dale to the town of Voss. Board the train in Voss for a ride on the beautiful Bergen Railway to the mountain station of Myrdal. From Myrdal ride on the amazing Flåm Railway, a masterpiece of engineering descending 2.838 feet in less than one hour. The descent to the fjord side village of Flåm offers opportunities for photo shots of exciting waterfalls and mountain scenery.

After a short rest in Flåm, we start a 2 hours cruise along the narrow Aurlands and Nærøy Fjords, both branches of the Sogn Fjord, the longest and deepest fjord in the world. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of cascading waterfalls, sheer mountain cliffs, snow-clad peaks, and a variety of wildlife. After disembarking in Gudvangen at the head of the Nærøy Fjord, continue by coach through the amazing Stalheim Canyon and Nærøy Valley, across the Vika Mountains to Vangsnes, for the short ferry crossing to the beautiful resort of Balestrand.

Day 8: BALESTRAND – A DAY IN THE FJORDS (B, D)

Day free in Balestrand, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the outstanding beauty and nature of the fjords. You may want to spend the morning relaxing on the hotel terrace, breathing in the fresh mountain air and enjoying the spectacular views. We can also recommend a visit to the local aquarium and art gallery, or you may prefer to rent a bike or rowing boat from the hotel, or a hike to the nearest mountains. A walking tour of the village of Balestrand, with its historic buildings and other noteworthy sites can also be arranged. Dinner and accommodation at Kvikne’s Hotel.

Day 9: BALESTRAND – GEIRANGER (B, L, D)
After buffet breakfast departure from your hotel by ferry from Dragsvik to Hella, followed by a scenic tour along the northern side of the Sogn Fjord to Sogndal. The tour continues by road to Fjærland, passing under the Jostedal Glacier, the largest in Europe, to the village of Skei at the northern end of beautiful Lake Jølster. Descend to the Nord Fjord, making a detour at Olden to visit the world-famous Briksdal Glacier. The journey up to the glacier will be made in open cars to give you the best views.

Lunch will be served in a nearby mountain restaurant. After lunch the tour continues around the Nord Fjord via Loen and Stryn, to the picturesque village of Hellesylt. From here you go on board the ferry for the one hour’s cruise along the spectacular Geiranger Fjord, possibly the most impressive of all the Norwegian fjords. During the cruise you will pass close by some magnificent waterfalls, such as the Bridal Veil and the Seven Sisters. Dinner and accommodation at the excellent Union Hotel, overlooking the Geiranger Fjord.

Day 10: GEIRANGER – OSLO (B, L, D)

From the top of one of the serpentine roads, you have the opportunity to digest some amazing views of the fjord, before crossing the rugged Grotli Mountains to Lom, well known for its 14th century stave church. The tour continues via Lake Vågå, before descending the magnificent Gudbrands Valley to the popular tourist town of Lillehammer. Stop for lunch in Lillehammer. After lunch the journey continues alongside Lake Mjøsa, Norway’s largest lake, back to Oslo. Dinner and accommodation at Thon Hotel Opera Oslo.

Day 11: OSLO – STOCKHOLM (B, L, D)

After breakfast departure from Oslo, continuing by coach towards the Swedish border. Cross into the attractive province of Värmland to arrive in the city of Karlstad on Lake Vänern, the largest in Sweden. Lunch in Karlstad. After lunch the tour continues through a landscape of forests and sparkling lakes to reach the Swedish capital in the late afternoon. Day 12: STOCKHOLM (B)

Breakfast at the hotel and start of 4 hours guided tour of the city. Famous sights include the Royal Palace, Parliament Buildings, Cathedral, Royal Theatre, etc. You will also visit the enchanting Old Town (Gamla Stan) with its narrow cobbled streets and numerous antique shops. Join one of Lights Over Lapland’s professional photographers for an opportunity to see and photograph the aurora borealis in the wilderness of Abisko National Park. Due to clear skies and virtually no light pollution Abisko is one of the greatest places in the world to see the northern lights. We will provide you with a high quality camera & lens and quickly teach you the skills that you will need to find and photograph the magical aurora borealis.
Itinerary

Begin: 8 PM

First you will meet your guide where you will be given a high quality camera and we will spend a few minutes explaining how to use it. All of the camera’s settings will be taken care of in advance so that all you have to do is enjoy watching and photographing the aurora borealis. You will also be given a pair of warm overalls to help keep you safe and comfortable during your night in Abisko National Park.

The adventure begins! Your guide will use their many years of experience to lead you into Abisko National Park where you will search for and photograph the magical aurora borealis. During this time we will discuss the history of Abisko National Park and give you a local’s insight into Lapland’s folklore. You will learn how the aurora fits into the local culture and your guide will share information that will help you understand the solar system and the countless stars and constellations above Abisko National Park. We will explain the science behind the aurora in layman’s terms so you can understand exactly what you are seeing when you watch the aurora borealis dance overhead. During your adventure we will also discuss the impact that strong solar storms and the auroras that they create may have on modern society in the years to come.

Once you return to the Turiststation you will collect your memory card full of photographs of the evening’s adventure.

FRIDAY: Excursion, Northern part of Eysturoy. Visit the scenic villages Gjógv and Saksun.
We drive from Tórshavn along the coast through colourful villages, crossing ”the bridge over the Atlantic”, and continue to the northern most village on the island of Eysturoy, Gjógv, known for its unique natural harbour and Crown Princess Mary’s bench.

Among other things, you will see classic sea cliffs and the rock formations the Giant and the Witch, and the highest mountain in the islands, Slættaratindur at 882 meters.

Lunch is served in cozy surroundings, and then the tour continues via the village of Funningur to the idyllic village of Saksun which lies picturesquely bound in a small fjord with high mountains on both sides.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

SATURDAY: Magnificent Vestmanna Cliffs and Viking settlements.
Start the day by exploring Tórshavn on your own. At the end of the harbour is Østrom where you can see and buy contemporary Faroese art and fine craft. On the main street it is possible to have a closer look at exquisite Faroese designed wool ware in the latest fashion, like the exciting store, Staðið and the sewing boutique, Guðrun and Guðrun.

On your walk you pass the cozy old bookstore, which is well worth a visit. We suggest lunch at cafe Kaffihúsið down by the harbour.

From Tórshavn we drive via the mountain road to the village of Vestmanna where we sail out to the cliffs, into and through several sea caves – a fabulous experience – remember your camera. En route back to Tórshavn, we make a stop at an old Viking farmstead in the beautiful and quaint village of Kvívík.

SUNDAY: Excursion, Saga Island of Sandoy and cultural centre of Kirkjubøur.
Day tour to the historic island of Sandoy, one of the most unspoiled islands where you can still experience the old, Faroese way of life.

We drive from Tórshavn over the mountain to the ferry harbor Gamlarætt where we catch our ferry. On the sail across the sound, we enjoy the views of Hestur and Koltur.

The guide tells us about the sagas from the island – some captivating stories. Experience a church visit, fantastic viewpoints, small villages, and bird cliffs. Bag lunch eaten en route.

Before returning to the hotel, we visit the cultural centre of Kirkjubøur.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

MONDAY: Explore Tórshavn on foot and by bus.
Walking exploration in the old city quarter in Tórshavn, Tinganes and Reyn with its small alleys and charming houses with grass roofs. The local guide will tell stories about the past and present. You might meet the Prime Minister, or one of William Heinesens – Lost Musicians.

The tour also goes by the Cathedral and its cozy adjacent neighbourhood, Vágsbotn, with its many boats. Here you can see how important the sea and fisheries are to the local inhabitants.

Then by bus to the newer part of town. The tour ends with lunch. After the tour, on your own, you can visit the National Faroese Museum.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

TUESDAY: Excursion, The Northern Islands – Breathtaking nature.
We drive from Tórshavn towards the most northerly island. From the village of Leirvík we enter the sub-sea tunnel, which was decorated by local artist Tróndur Patursson.

On this tour, we will experience the islands of Borðoy, Viðoy, and Kunoy. The nature is breathtaking, and is dominated by high and steep mountains. We explore the second largest village of Klaksvík, one of the most important villages inside the fishing industry.

We also visit Christians Church. Lunch is served on the tour.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

WEDNESDAY: Day on your own. Additional excursions can be purchased, for example:

Visit the Island Mykines. Daytrip to the westernmost island of Mykines, also called bird paradise, as the island has a rich bird life. See among others the impressive bird Gannet who is the king among the Faroese birds, and only breeds on Mykinesholm. Get close to puffins, the charming little birds with the colorful beaks. NOTE: The ferry crossing to Mykines depends on the weather. Should it happen that the ferry is canceled the tour continues on the island of Vágar. This excursion is not refundable.

Visit the island of Nólsoy. By ferry from Tórshavn to the neighboring island Nósloy. Here life moves at a slow pace. At the tourist office you will meet the guide who will take you on a tour of the village. Visit Brunn, a house built of driftwood from the 1600 century and the unique attraction that can only be had on Nólsoy, Rowing Ove’s boat, Diana Victoria. In 1986 Ove rowed alone from the Faroe Islands to the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. Light meal is served. On your own, you can hike to the top of the island where you have the most beautiful panoramic views of Tórshavn and the nearby islands.

Day 1: Arrival

Welcome to the Land of Fire and Ice! On your own, transfer to Reykjavik. If your flight lands early in the day, a great suggestion is to explore Reykjavík, the largest municipality in Iceland.

Ingolfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland, built his farm on the peninsula where Reykjavík stands today. The town got its name “Smoky Bay” after the columns of steam that rose from the hot springs in the area and made such a deep impression on the first settlers.

Dinner is on your own. Reykjavik offers a multitude of restaurants and/or coffee-houses, making dinner a great way to get better acquainted with Iceland\’s capital.

Day 2: Geysir – Gullfoss – Skogar – Dyrholaey – Vik

Breakfast at your hotel. Start the day with a short city sightseeing of Reykjavik. From Reykjavik head through the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi. Head on to the Golden Circle natural wonders. Explore Gullfoss, the \”Golden Waterfall\”, and the nearby Geysir hot spring area to see the famous Geysir and Strokkur, as well as numerous other hot springs and boiling mud pools. Continue along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss before continuing to Dyrholaey* nature reserve. Continue to the village of Vik.

Breakfast at your hotel. Continue your journey along the Ring Road. Cross Eldhraun, the largest lava flow recorded on the planet in historical times. Visit Kirkjubaejarklaustur town, the former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent. The tour continues over Skeidararsandur sands to Skaftafell, a beautiful glacial area within Vatnajokull National Park. Continue to the stunning Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon to see the birthplace of icebergs. As you head east, you will continue to enjoy magnificent views of mighty Vatnajokull, Europe‘s largest glacier. Your destination is Hofn, a seacoast village located near the glacier.

Day 4: Hofn – East Fjords – Egilsstadir

Breakfast at your hotel. Today you‘ll enjoy amazing scenery as you head from glacial landscapes to fjord views. Drive from Hofn through Almannaskard pass, stopping to admire the majestic coastline. Head into the magnificent East Fjords with its views of towering mountains plunging vertically into the sea. Pass through coastal fjord villages on your way to Egilsstadir.

Day 5: Lake Myvatn Area – Highland Desert – Bizarre Lava Formations – Geothermal & Volcanic Activity – Rich Birdlife – Protected Salmon River

Breakfast at your hotel. Explore the empty vastness of the highland desert plateau Modrudalsoraefi as you head towards the Lake Myvatn area. On the way, stop at Dettifoss, Europe\’s most powerful waterfall. Continue onwards to Namaskard pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colours. Explore the natural beauty of the Lake Myvatn area, including the pseudo craters at Skutustadir and the Laxa Salmon River. One of the Myvatn area\’s claims to fame is that it is home to more species of ducks than any other place on Earth, with very diverse birdlife in general.

Day 6: Lake Myvatn Area – Akureyri – Siglufjordur

\”Waterfall of the Gods\” – Folk Museum – The beautiful Troll Peninsula

Breakfast at your hotel. Start the day by exploring the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Visit the magnificent Godafoss waterfall and the old turf farm Laufas. Afterwards, visit Akureyri, the colourful northern “capital“ of Iceland. The town has charming buildings and beautiful view of the Eyjafjordur Fjord. After spending some time in Akureyri, continue along the coastal roads of Eyjafjordur and the Troll Peninsula. This is a beautiful drive along steep mountains with amazing views over the Arctic Sea and black sand coastline. The destination is Siglufjordur, set in a beautiful fjord of the same name. This town has some of the finest timber buildings in the country, beautifully restored to their original glory. The evening and dinner is on your own at one of the town´s restaurants. Siglufjordur is a very enjoyable and friendly town for an evening stroll.

Day 7: Skagafjordur – Borgarnes – Fertile Farmlands – Glacial Rivers – Unique Viking Horse Demonstration

Breakfast at your hotel. This morning visit Siglufjordur‘s award-winning Herring-Era Museum. The museum recreates the atmosphere of the early 20th century, when Siglufjordur was transformed into a herring boom town, thanks to a large migration of herring. Afterwards, head along majestic mountains and narrow passes lead to Skagafjordur, considered to be one of the finest places in Iceland for horse breeding. Enjoy an introduction to the unique Icelandic horse breed with its special fifth gait – the tolt. Continue towards the village of Blonduos built on both sides of the river Blanda. Hrutey Island, a protected nature reserve, sits within the centre of this popular Salmon River. Cross the Holtavorduheidi plateau through Borgarfjordur to the beautiful town of Borgarnes.

Day 8: Borgarfjordur – Thingvellir – Reykjavik – Europe\’s Largest Hot Spring – Picturesque Waterfalls – National Park with Geological Wonders (UNESCO)

Breakfast at your hotel. Drive to Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in the world. Stop to admire the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls before continuing via Hvalfjordur fjord to Lake Thingvallavatn, Iceland\’s largest lake and Thingvellir National Park. This UNESCO heritage site is where the world‘s oldest continuing parliamentary government was founded in the 10th century. It is also the place where the North American and European tectonic plates meet.

ARRIVE BERGEN
Self-transfer from the ship to your hotel. Overnight and breakfast at a 4,5 star-hotel in Bergen. Spend the day to explore beautiful Bergen. See the Unesco Bryggen Wharf, the Fish market, take the Funicular to the top of mount Floyen – offering you a marvelous view of the city and the surrounding fjords and islands.

Make sure to visit the authentic areas with tiny wooden houses and narrow streets at the hillsides, at the Nordnes peninsula and Marken area close to the old train station.

Day 6

BERGEN – VOSS – GUDVANGEN – FLÅM

Early breakfast at your hotel. Self-transfer with train, bus and boat to Flåm. Self-transfer to the pier in Gudvangen where you board the boat which takes you to Aurlandsfjorden and the UNESCO protected Nærøyfjorden. The Aurlandsfjord is a picturesque fjord where you can enjoy the view, while the fjord of Nærøy is one of Europe’s most narrow fjords surrounded by enormous mountains.

In Flåm it\’s only a two minute walk to your hotel. Enjoy the Viking Plank Dinner, overnight and breakfast at a luxurous hotel. In the midday you can enjoy the snowshoe Hike. Duration: 2,5 – 3 hrs.

This guided hike will take you into our local mountains, for an exceptional view of the fjord at Stegastein viewpoint in Aurland. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the Aurlandsfjord and experience how it is to hike on these traditional snowshoes.

The spectacular landscape has shaped the way of life here for generations and we stop several times during the tour to share our passion and knowledge about the area. FLÅM – MYRDAL – OSLO

Breakfast at your hotel. Make your way down to the pier in Flåm for your Winter Fjord Safari by RIB. Enjoy! Please dress warm as the temperature on the fjord will be very low during the winter months. Meet up at least 30 minutes prior to departure to check in and get fully dressed. At 11 am arrive back at Flåm pier. Train departure from Flåm to Myrdal onboard the Flåmsbana railway.

The Flåm Railway has been named one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Norway. The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a trubitary of the Sognefjord, up to the high mountains at Myrdal station. The journey displays the very best aspects of Western Norway`s stunning scenery. While waiting for the train bound to Oslo, we suggest you have lunch at Rallaren Cafè (not included).

Itinerary

Day 1

Copenhagen – Kangerlussuaq – Nuuk

Depart from Copenhagen with Air Greenland. The first sight of Greenland is very special and makes a big impression.Your first stop is in Kangerlussuaq where you change flight to Nuuk. After check-inn explore the capital of Greenland. A busy city surrounded by magnificent nature, that most citizens use actively all year round.

In Nuuk you find gourmet restaurants and very nice boutique shops. But when you walk through the old neighbourhoods you see that history and traditions continue to have clear impact on a city that is growing rapidly.

Day 2

Nuuk – Boarding the costal ship

We suggest to visit the beautiful arts centre Katauaq, whose façade is shaped like the northern light and the equally beautiful old district with the statue of Hans Egede looking across the old colonial harbour, the fjord and the mountain range in the distance.

The Greenland National Museum with the famous mummies is located in the colonial harbor and is worth a visit. Remember to take a selfie with Santa\’s big red mailbox.

At the end of the day it is time to board Sarfaq Ittuk. Ahead awaits two days of coastal cruise, heading for Ilulissat. The coastal ship sails up and down the west coast and is also used by the Greenlanders themselves.

Day 3

At sea – Calling at Sisimiut

In the morning the ship will call at Maniitsoq and Kangaamiut. There is no time to go ashore, but from the deck it is possible to enjoy the busy harbour as people disembark and new travellers come on board.

Early evening we arrive in Sisimiut, the second largest city in Greenland. The coloured houses stands in wonderful contrast to the hilly rocky area. Explore Sisimiut and visit the old town with its original buildings from the colonial era.

Opportunity to buy souvenirs before the coastal ship continues north.

Day 4

Icefjord – Arrival to Ilulissat

As the ship approaches Ilulissat, there is every reason to enjoy the sight of the icebergs. Some are just large-scale lumps of ice while others are almost towering above you. What a welcome to the magnificent Disco Bay.

Transfer from the ship to the hotel. After check-in go for a walk around town. The colourful houses are painted in a rainbow of shades, and the giant icebergs float by in the bay just outside of town. Visit the local museum to get an insight into local history and the life of the well-known polar explorer Knud Rasmussen and his many expeditions.

On the outskirts of town you can see and hear the sled dogs. The dogs are chained, but their puppies roam free.

Ilulissat offers various restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy fabulous food – often with a spectacular view.

Day 5

Ilulissat – Day on your own

Additional excursions can be purchased, but must be pre-booked. For example: Guided walk to the ancient settlement of Sermermiut and enjoy beautiful vantage points over the ice. The beautiful icebergs of Ilulissat create the wing for the abandoned settlement Sermermiut, which is situated one and a half kilometres south of the city. The different Inuit cultures have lived here during the last 4000 years, and today you can still find artefacts, which witness their presence. Hear the story about the life and the customs of the Greenlanders before the Europeans´ arrival; see the ruins and the kitchen mitten. From here is one of the world\’s most beautiful vantage points over the ice.

Day 6

Ilulissat – Day on your own

Additional excursions can be purchased, but must be pre-booked. For example: Full day excursion to Eqi Sermia. The Eqi Sermia Glacier is called the \”calving glacier\” because ice breaks off from it more frequently than other glaciers. The excursion to the Eqi Sermia glacier it gives you the opportunity to get very close to the inland ice and to see the calving phenomenon. At the glacier the boat stops approx. 500 metres from it so you can admire the calving.

Day 7

Ilulissat – Day on your own

Additional excursions can be purchased, but must be pre-booked. For example: Boat tour among the huge icebergs of the Ilulissat Icefjord. These large pieces of ice have broken off from the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. The glacier flows about 30 metres per day producing approximately 20 billion tons of ice every year. Form the Icefjord the icebergs float by the town of Ilulissat and continue north before turning south and into the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 8

Returning by plane across the Icefjord to Copenhagen via Kangerlussuaq. Check out from accommodation and transfer to the airport.

Day 1
STOCKHOLM
Upon arrival, self-transfer to your centrally located hotel. Remainder of the day is at your leisure with plenty of museums, restaurants, shops and galleries to explore. We suggest a visit to the Vasa Museum, which houses one of the world’s oldest and best- preserved warships dating back to 1628. Or perhaps a visit to Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum, with its collection of old buildings brought here from all over Sweden. Overnight and breakfast at 4 star hotel.

Day 2

STOCKHOLM

Enjoy a nice breakfast at your hotel before you will explore Stockholm! Enjoy the tour – STOCKHOLM in a Nutshell. Departure from Gustav Adolfs Torg at 10.00 hrs. This tour is a combination of the Stockholm Panorama bus tour and the Royal Canal Tour. We start with a coach trip around the city, viewing the best known sites and buildings. After one hour and a half, we transfer to a boat to sail around the royal park of Djurgården and past the most inner archipelago islands. Overnight and breakfast at 4 star hotel.

Day 3

STOCKHOLM-COPENHAGEN

Day 4

COPENHAGEN

Breakfast is served at your hotel before you go on a city tour of Copenhagen! The bus passes by the major sights of Copenhagen, for example the magnificent Gefion Fountain, Tivoli, Christiansborg Palace, the Opera, Our Saviour\’s Church, Amalienborg Castle and much more.

At the conclusion of the bus tour you will board one of our canal boats for a live-guided tour on the beautiful canals of Copenhagen and explore more of our city. One of the great highlights is of course the Little Mermaid, a tribute to Hans Christian Andersen. The cruise continues through the picturesque canals of Christianhavn and Frederiksholm where historical buildings are to be enjoyed side by side with more modern architecture.

Day 1

ARRIVE COPENHAGEN

Arrive to your hotel in Copenhagen city centre on own. The capital is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance in the city centre. We recommend a visit to the Tivoli Gardens (not open all year), the Amalienborg Palace, the Christiansborg Palace (Danish Parliament), the Gefion Fountain, the old harbour ‘Nyhavn’, the Little Mermaid, the Round Tower, the museum of Carlsberg or one of the many other museums of art, culture, history and design. Also remember time to enjoy the pedestrian shopping streets of Strøget and surroundings. Accommodation at 3 stars hotel in Copenhagen, centrally located.

Day 2

COPENHAGEN – ODENSE (168KM)

Breakfast at the hotel. Pick up rental car in the city centre. Departure from Copenhagen westward through farming countryside and small villages, some of which were founded by Vikings more than a thousand years ago. Upon arrival in Roskilde – until 1417, the capital of Denmark – we recommend a visit to the the twin-spired Roskilde Cathedral. The construction of the cathedral was commenced during the 12th century and additions have been made through the ages, in different architectural styles. The cathedral is the traditional burial place of Danish monarchs and contains more than 40 royal graves. Continue from Roskilde to Halskov from where you will drive over one of the world’s largest suspension bridges constructed off-shore and arrive on the island of Funen. Continue to Odense, Denmark’s third largest city and Hans Christian Andersen’s home town. We recommend a visit to the home he grew up in, the Hans Christian Andersen Home. The humble house, where H.C. Andersen was born in 1805, has been turned into a museum dedicated to the world famous fairy tale writer. Day 3

ODENSE – AARHUS (142KM)

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Odense and cross the Little Belt waterway to Jutland. On the way to Aarhus, we recommend a detour to the village of Jelling. During the 10C, at the height of the Viking period, Jelling was for some time the royal seat chosen by two Viking kings, Gorm the Old and his son Harald Bluetooth, who started the Danish Royal line. As evidence they left two large burial mounds and two rune stones, known as the Jelling Stones, which have given crucial information about early Danish history. Continue to Aarhus, the second largest city of Denmark and also known as the City of the Smile. We recommend a visit to the Old City (Den Gamle By), a fascination open-air collection of completely furnished old Danish town houses with workshops etc. Also possibility to visit the cathedral, the museum of Danish prehistory, Moesgaard or the drive past the Marselisborg Palace in Aarhus, the holiday residence of the Royal Family. When the Royal Family is not in residence there is free admission to the palace park for the public from morning to evening. Accommodation at 3 star+ class hotel in Aarhus, centrally located.

Day 4

AARHUS – NORTH ZEALAND – COPENHAGEN (141KM)

Breakfast at the hotel and departure by ferry from Aarhus to the tongue of land Sjællands Odde on Zealand. Passing through rural villages and wooded, undulating countryside to Hillerød where we recommend a visit to the Frederiksborg Castle, the beautifully situated Renaissance building which – like so many others – was built by orders of King Christian IV. Today, Frederiksborg is the home of the Museum of National History, the collection of which includes priceless paintings, silver and porcelain items, furniture and tapestries. The castle chapel houses Denmark’s oldest organ from 1610. If time permits, we recommend driving via Fredensborg for a photo stop at the Fredensborg Palace, the spring and autumn residence of the Royal Family, to Helsingør (Elsinore) and the Kronborg Castle, made famous by Shakespeare and the story of Hamlet. Afterwards route to Copenhagen. Along the way a possibility to visit world-famous museum of modern art, Louisiana, or Rungstedlund, situated on the shores of Øresund, 25 km north of Copenhagen, next to a tiny picturesque harbour full of colourful pleasure boats of all sizes. Rungstedlund was the beautiful family home of Denmark’s most famous female author, Karen Blixen, whose autobiographical book “Out of Africa” became known worldwide when a film was made of it in 1985. The house has been turned into a museum but a great part of it has been left as it was when she lived in it. Continue to Copenhagen and evening free for leisure. Day 1

ARRIVAL HELSINKI

Arrival to Helsinki-Vantaa airport and pick-up your rental car. Drive to Helsinki and get to know the city. We recommend a visit to some of the most important sights such as the Senate Square, the Uspenskij Cathedral, Parliament House, Finlandia Hall, the Sibelius Park & Monument and the Temppeliaukio church. Day 2

HELSINKI – PORVOO (55 KM)

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning free time to explore more of Helsinki. We recommend a visit to the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, included in Unesco’s World Heritage List. The fortress was established in 1748, and is just 15 minutes by ferry from Helsinki’s Market Square. Drive to Porvoo, the second oldest town of Finland. The driving route follows The King’s Road, which is one of the most significant travel routes in the Nordic countries, and follows an old postal route. The road has been used by kings and their couriers, bishops and townsmen, artists and armies ever since the 1300s. Mansions, farms, taverns, alehouses and inns that housed and accommodated travellers arose all along the King\’s Road. Today the King\’s Road is a network of fascinating travel services but some stretches of the original road are still in use. The total length of the road is 253 km. On the way to Porvoo, it is possible to visit Haikko Manor, the home of the famous painter Albert Edelfelt and the old church of Sipoo, built in the 15th century. Arrive at Porvoo and explore the Old Town by foot. Take a walk around the well-preserved wooden houses, visit the medieval church, and the Town Hall Square. Stay the night at a small, elegant boutique hotel in the heart of the picturesque Old Town of Porvoo. Accommodation at Pariisin Ville Hotel or similar.

Day 3

PORVOO –TURKU (215 KM)

Breakfast at the hotel. Depart from Porvoo, and drive to Turku, the oldest town of Finland and a former capital. Turku is located on the shores of the river Aura. The southwest of Finland offers ancient cultural traditions as this is where the recorded history of Finland begins and where the oldest traces of habitation have been found. The driving route to Turku goes along The King’s Road, with the possibility of some extra kilometres if you take the deviation to Hanko for a visit to Finland’s southernmost point, which is certainly worth doing. Arrive at Turku, famous for an active cultural scene and maritime atmosphere. We recommend visits to the Castle of Turku from the XIII century, the Luostarinmäki outdoor & crafts museum, and the Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova museum complex. Day 4

TURKU –NAANTALI – TUUSULA (200 KM)

Breakfast at the hotel and short drive to Naantali. Naantali could also be called Finland’s oficial summer holiday city because the Kultaranta Estate, the summer residence of the President of Finland, is located here. The Moomin World theme park makes Naantali a top spot for children and families. Walk in the Old town of Naantali, see the medieval church and visit the gardens with 3.500 roses at the Kultaranta Estate. In the late afternoon drive to Tuusula which is located at a convenient distance to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport for next day’s departure flight. Arrival to the Krapi Estate, which is located amid a prestigious cultural environment in Tuusula and offers a hotel, restaurants, a chimneyless sauna and a large park area with a wide variety of activities. Krapi is located right at the beginning of the first Finnish Museum Road (Tuusula Rantatie). Homes of many famous artists of the turn of the century, who were actively involved in the forming of the Finnish national identity, can be found along this road. ARRIVE STOCKHOLM

Arrival Stockholm Arlanda Airport and pick up rental car. Drive to your hotel in the city centre. We can recommend a canal cruise or a visit to the Vasa Museum. The impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961. She has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging at the Vasa Museum. Day 4

GOTHENBORG – MALMÖ (270 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Before leaving Gothenburg, we recommend a visit to the Gunnebo House, one of Sweden’s most beautiful neoclassical estates beautifully situated between two lakes, Rådasjön and Stensjön, in the Municipality of Mölndal, just south of Gothenburg. Continue south along the West Swedish coast line. If time permits, make a detour to ancient university city of Lund, about 1000 years old and one of the oldest cities in Sweden. The University was founded in 1658 and has become a leading university in Sweden and Scandinavia. Also possibility to cross the bridge to Copenhagen, capital of Denmark, located just on the other side of the narrow Øresund Belt. Arrival in Malmö, a charming city where we recommend a visit to Malmöhus Castle which has been housing museum collections since 1926. In 1434 king Erik VII of Denmark had the castle of Myntergaarden built where the Malmöhus Castle stands today. Also remember time to enjoy the atmosphere of this historic city. Day 5

MALMÖ – KALMAR (285 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Continue by road to Kristianstad, a former fortress town founded by the Danish King Christian IV in 1614. Drive along the coast to Karlshamn, known for its well preserved historical buildings. Karlshamn played an important role in the Swedish emigration to America as a large number of people left Sweden from here. By the harbour you can see a copy of Axel Olssons statue which depicts the key charaters of Vilhelm Moberg´s famous novels, Karl-Oskar and Kristina, looking out over the sea before starting their adventure. Just west of Växjö you will reach the “Kingdom of Crystal” where you can visit one or two of the famous glass factories. Experience the art of glassblowing and search for bargains in the glass shops! Continue to Kalmar, famous for its castle which was for long the guardian of Sweden´s southern frontier. Accommodation at 3 star+ class hotel in Kalmar, centrally located.

Day 6

KALMAR – STOCKHOLM (409 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Kalmar was once one of the most important towns in the North and we recommend spending some time here before continuing back to Stockholm. The historical past is an integral part of the character of the city. Kalmar Castle, the Old Town and Kvarnholmen tell the tale of mighty kings and queens as well as commoners. Traces of the past are found in architecture, cultural artifacts and art as well as in the well-worn cobblestones that pave the streets. Itinerary

SUNDAY: Arrival to the Faroe Islands. Visit the villages Bøur and Gásadalur.
Arrival with Atlantic Airways. Pick up rental car at the airport.

Take the short drive to the villages of Bøur and Gásadalur, which was the last village connected to the rest of the islands by tunnel. Enjoy the quiet and breathtaking view of Tindhólm.

Spend the night on Vágar.

MONDAY: Day on your own, but we suggest to purchase the day trip to the bird island Mykines:

The tour starts with a grand sail by majestic sea cliffs. Spot puffins, that charming little bird with a colourful beak, or the impressive gannet, which can only breed on the isolated isle to the west of the main island. To get out to the isle and its lighthouse, one must cross a bridge – a bridge that crosses the Atlantic Ocean. Bag lunch en route. Back in the village, one can pop in at the local cafe. Spend the night on Vágar.

TUESDAY: The island of Suðuroy. Walks and impressive vantage points.
From Tórshavn sail with the ferry Smyril to the island of Suðuroy. There are many great walking/hiking paths in Suðuroy for example the top of Rávan and the award winning Hvannhagi.

Visit the local tourist office in the village of Tvøroyri for more information about hiking. We highly recommend the beautiful hike to Hvannhagi, and the short walk Á Røðina to experience the dramatic west side of the island.

In the town of Tvøroyri, have a look at some of the old historic buildings used by the Danish Royal Company Store, and enjoy a coffee in one of the cozy cafes.

Spend the night on Suðuroy.

WEDNESDAY: Sightseeing with local guide on Suðuroy and storytelling.
Pick up at your overnight accommodations by a local driver/guide who will show you around this peculiar island, which has a rich history and unforgettable view points.

The sightseeing tour is determined by wind and weather. Lunch en route.

Spend the night on Suðuroy.

THURSDAY: Cosy Tórshavn and excellent food.
Return to Tórshavn with the ferry.

On your own go for a walk in Tórshavn through the old part of town, Reyn and Tinganes. You will find yourself in a confusion of lanes and narrow passages, steps and rocks and tiny black-tarred houses with white windows and green turfed roofs. This area is unique not only in the Faroes but in the world.

In Tórshavn you will find various restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy excellent food.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

FRIDAY: Island of Nólsoy. Guided walk and see among other things Ove’s boat.
By ferry from Tórshavn to the neighboring island Nósloy. Here life moves at a slow pace.

At the tourist office you will meet the guide who will take you on a tour of the village. Visit Brunn, a house built of driftwood from the 1600 century and the unique attraction that can only be had on Nólsoy, Rowing Ove’s boat, Diana Victoria. In 1986 Ove rowed alone from the Faroe Islands to the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. Lunch is served.

On your own, you can hike to the top of the island where you have the most beautiful panoramic views of Tórshavn and the nearby islands.

Return by ferry to Tórshavn. In the afternoon, we suggest a visit to the village of Kirkjubøur, which is the Faroe Islands’ cultural centre.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

SATURDAY: Boat trip to Vestmanna Cliffs and the village of Viðareiði.
From the village of Vestmanna the boat trip starts to the fantastic Vestmanna Cliffs. You sail into grottos, through narrow sounds, and close to the almost 1500 feet high vertical cliffs.

Afterwards drive towards the northern islands, which offer dramatic landscapes. From the village of Leirvík you drive through the sub-sea tunnel to the town of Klaksvík. The tunnel is decorated with lights by the well-known Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson.

On the island of Viðoy is the islands’ most northerly village, Viðareiði, which is worth a visit. Enjoy a cup of coffee or a slice of bread at the local restaurant.

Spend the night in the Northern Islands.

SUNDAY: Island of Kalsoy – Seal Woman.
With ferry from Klaksvík to the island of Kalsoy, popularly called the Recorder, which comes because of the 12-kilometer long road that winds through four tunnels and connects the islands four villages.

Make a stop at the village of Mikladalur, which is known, for its artists and sagas. By the ocean, you can see the beautiful sculpture of the Seal Woman, and this is definitely worth a visit.

Also visit the village of Trøllanes far to the north. From Trøllanes it is possible to walk to the lighthouse Kallin, which is beautifully situated (the walk can be done with a local guide, but must be booked in advance). Remember to bring a bite to eat and something to drink.

Spend the night in the Northern Islands.

MONDAY: Visit the village of Gjógv and enjoy the view from Crown Princess Mary´s Bench.
Enjoy the day in scenic village of Gjógv, which is known for its unique natural harbour and a beautiful view of the island of Kalsoy. The natural harbour is an attraction everyone should take time to see.

If you walk along the edge of the crevice, you might see some puffins coming out of their nests on their way out to the ocean to get food for their young. At the end of the crevice, facing the open ocean, it is possible to enjoy the view from Crown Princess Mary’s Bench.

From Gjógv you can hike up the mountain to the beautiful valley Ambadalur, en route you see bird cliffs and enjoy scenic views. More information about the hike is available at the guesthouse in the village.

Spend the night on Eysturoy.

TUESDAY: Discover the fjord, Skálafjørðin and the nearby villages.
Visit some of the adjacent villages, for example Oyndarfjørður to see the Rocking Stones, which according to legend are two enchanted pirate ships that lie rocking calmly.

Continue to the village of Runavík and visit the local tourist office for information and visiting hours for the charming Vicarage in the village of Nes.

The yarn store Navia is located in the village of Toftir and has a large selection of Faroese sweater, yarn, wool, etc.

In the village of Søldafjørður its possible to meet the Faroese in a private home and to have coffee/cake or lunch/dinner. (Meet the Faroese is not included and must be booked in advance).

Spend the night in Eysturoy.

WEDNESDAY: Scenic road from Gjógv to Eiði. Departure from the Faroe Islands.
North of the village of Eiði the rock formations, the Giant and the Witch can be seen. According to legend, they are a couple who, in attempting to move the islands to Iceland, were turned to stone.

En route, you pass by the highest mountain, Slættartindur at 882 meters.

Pick up the car at the airport and start your Iceland experience.

From Keflavik International Airport, we recommend driving the southern coast of the Reykjanes peninsula, a colourful area filled with interesting geological sites and perfect for photo opportunities. This route takes you along dramatic coastlines and towards your first overnight stay in the charming village of Hveragerdi.   This village is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area and, because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs, it is often called the “flower village.”

If your flight arrives early in the day, you might stop at the Blue Lagoon (a short distance from the airport) for a chance to relax in the soothing geothermal mineral waters.

Important: Please note that admission to the Blue Lagoon must be booked in advance.

Overnight stay in Hveragerdi.

Day 2: Thingvellir – Gullfoss – Geysir – Hella – Vik

Today you will be in the Katla UNESCO Global Geopark area, a wonderland of active volcanoes, black sand beaches, glittering glaciers and moss-covered lava flows. This area is a treat to photograph, and you’ll enjoy the special chance to spend more time exploring these unusual landscapes.   Visit Dyrholaey* a rocky headland where thousands of puffins nest in the summer (puffins are in Iceland usually between mid-May and early August). Feel the power of thundering waves on black sand beaches. Discover the magnificent Fjadrargljufur, an oddly-shaped canyon formed during the Ice Age.   Kirkjubaejarklaustur village is the former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent. Nearby natural sites connected to convent history include Systrastapi (Sisters’ Rock) and Systrafoss (Sisters’ Waterfalls).

If you enjoy outdoor adventure, you might opt for snowmobiling on Myrdalsjokull Glacier, ATV biking on black sand beaches or taking an adventurous SuperJeep off-road trip in the wilderness near Katla Volcano.

Day 4: Skaftafell – Jokulsarlon – Hofn

Today leave yourself plenty time to enjoy glacial vistas from all angles. You will be in the area of Vatnajokull National Park, named after Europe‘s largest glacier. Visit the park´s Skaftafell area, a green oasis nestled below the great Vatnajokull glacier. There are many excellent hiking trails here, including a trail that leads to the basalt-framed Svartifoss falls. Skaftafell is also an excellent place to take a guided glacier hike. Continue to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where huge icebergs float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon. Today you might also opt to experience amazing photography opportunities of light and shadow, sea and black sand dunes at Vestrahorn, where a 454 meter (1489 foot) mountain overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 5: Hofn – Djupivogur – Faskrudsfjordur – Egilsstadir

Narrow Fjords – Steep Mountains – Picturesque Coastline – Intriguing Stone Collection

Drive along the rugged coastline of the East Fjords with their towering mountains and charming fishing villages, a perfect setting for photography.    The East Fjords have some of Iceland’s geologically oldest landscapes and amazing views of fjord and sea. Djupivogur, the gateway to the East Fjords, is ideal for hiking on the coast. As you travel, you might option of taking a boat tour to Papey Island where thousands of puffins nest in the summer (May – early August), or visiting Petra\’s famous collection of local stones and minerals at Stodvarfjordur.   Faskrudsfjordur is a pretty town with an interesting historical connection to France and an ideal place to visit on your way to Egilsstadir, the region’s largest town.

Day 6: Egilsstadir – Dettifoss- Husavik – Myvatn

Highland Desert – Europe\’s Most Powerful Waterfall – Glacier Carved Gorge – Whale Watching

Today you will get a taste of Iceland‘s highlands when you travel across Modrudalsoraefi. This vast area is renowned for stark, untouched beauty. Visit Dettifoss, Europe\’s mightiest waterfall. Travel through the wilderness beauty of northern Vatnajokull National Park, visiting the magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon Asbyrgi.   Drive around the ancient, fossil-rich Tjornes peninsula, where you can enjoy excellent views of the sea. Visit Husavik, a colourful fishing village known for its excellent whale watching excursions, before heading to the renowned Myvatn Nature reserve.

Day 7: Myvatn- Akureyri- Saelingsdalur Valley

Bizarre Lava Formations – Geothermal & Volcanic Activity – Rich Birdlife – Waterfall \”Of the Gods\”- The Capital of North Iceland

Explore the surreal, photogenic highlights of the Lake Myvatn area, including the mystical Dimmuborgir volcanic formations, the Skutustadir pseudo craters, and the colourful sulphurous Namaskard slopes. Drive to Godafoss waterfall en route to Akureyri, a charming town set in Eyjafjordur fjord. Continue over the Oxnadalur pass to the historical Skagafjordir region, renowned for horse breeding and medieval history. You might visit the old turf-roof manor at Glaumbaer, a great example of Icelandic architecture from the last few centuries. Continue your journey through the farmlands and scenic coastline on the way to Saelingsdalur valley, an area rich in Viking Saga history and legends of elves.

Day 8: Saelingsdalur Valley – Snaefellsnes Peninsula – Borgarnes – Reykjavik

Circle around the legendary Snaefellsjokull peninsula, home to Snaefellsjokull National Park. Visit Stykkisholmur, a town overlooking a bay filled with thousands of islands. Here it is possible to take a boat tour in the bay. Pass by small fishing villages and Kirkjufjall, Iceland‘s most photographed mountain Don\’t miss the striking columnar basalt rock formations teeming with birdlife at Arnarstapi. Make a stop at the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur. Crowning the peninsula is the mysterious Snaefellsjokull, a glacier capped volcano. Pass by Eldborg, a crater where you can hike to the top. Drive through the scenic Borgarfjordur region on your way to Reykjavik.

Day 9: Departure

Drive back to Keflavik International Airport and even stop at Blue Lagoon as it is on your way to the airport, if you did not have time to do it on you arrival day.
